NEW Exhibition: COLOUR CONTEXT — Daisy Henderson

Opening Night: 4th June at Klose & Soan

As we ease into June with longer evenings, softer light, that familiar sense of everything opening up — our front bar shifts once again into a new rhythm. This month, we welcome COLOUR CONTEXT, a body of work by South East London-based artist Daisy Henderson.

Henderson’s practice sits somewhere between instinct and intention — an exploration of colour, material, and the quiet tension between the two. With a background in textile design, her work carries a sensitivity to surface and structure, where each piece feels built as much as it is painted. There’s a tactility to it — layers that hold movement, depth, and something just out of reach.

COLOUR CONTEXT unfolds as a collection that leans fully into this dialogue. Colour isn’t fixed here — it shifts, responds, softens, and sharpens depending on its surroundings. Texture becomes a kind of language, guiding the eye across each surface, inviting a slower way of looking.

Rooted in observations of the natural world — gathered both locally and further afield — Henderson translates these moments into compositions that feel both expansive and intimate. There are echoes of landscape, of light changing across a surface, of something fleeting made momentarily still.

Working in mixed media, her process builds rhythm over time. Marks are layered, reworked, sometimes obscured, sometimes revealed. The result is a series of pieces that feel alive — not static, but quietly shifting depending on how you meet them.

Installed in our front bar — the space we often think of as our gallery — COLOUR CONTEXT sits alongside the natural pace of the room. A glass of wine in hand, light moving through the windows, conversation ebbing and flowing around it. Art not as something separate, but as something to sit with.

As always, the exhibition is free to view during opening hours. The bar will be open for drinks, snacks, and evenings that stretch a little longer than planned.
